IMPORTANT INFO REGARDING TOPICAL ANESTHETIC LAW​

​The State of Michigan requires a physician-signed prescription/note in order for us to use a topical numbing during your cosmetic tattoo service. Numbing is highly encouraged for your comfort during all cosmetic tattooing procedures, and we do require it for all lip and eyeliner procedures. If you wish to have numbing applied, please contact your physician and request they complete the prescription template provided below. ​

If your physician chooses not to use our provided template, be sure the following prescription requirements are included in their prescription and/or letter.

3. Approval to use topical anesthetic during a tattoo service

4. Approval to use topical anesthetic product containing 5% lidocaine (recommended not to specify exact product)

5. Instructions:  Apply to skin prior to tattoo procedure

8. Date signed

Please note: If you bring the physician-signed template prescription or a prescription that meets the listed requirements, you do not need to bring a numbing product to your appointment. We will provide the product.

FAQ'S about Anesthetics

Do I really need an anesthetic for my procedure?

​

• Although some cosmetic tattooing can be tolerated without anesthetics, such as Areola & Scar procedures, an anesthetic is highly recommended for Brow, Lip and Eyeliner procedures. I will not even attempt a lip or eyeliner procedure on you without an anesthetic. Even if you already have body tattoos, and you believe you have a “high pain tolerance” (everyone says that), please understand that these delicate areas of the face are FAR more sensitive than other commonly tattooed areas of the body, and can be very painful without an anesthetic.

 

Can I apply my own topical anesthetic before I come to my appointment?

• DO NOT APPLY YOUR OWN ANESTHETIC TO YOUR SKIN PRIOR TO YOUR APPOINTMENT! If you do this, I am required by law to turn you away! Although available over the counter, the Michigan Health Department requires a valid prescription in order to use ANY topical anesthetic both before and during a tattoo service. Allowing an anesthetic to sit on your skin longer than necessary can toughen and oversaturate the skin tissue causing it to resist the pigment. This negatively impacts both the procedure and your healed results, and could also cause health risks for some people. Please bring your prescription or completed  prescription form (provided above) to the appointment, and the proper anesthetic will be applied safely and appropriately for the ideal amount of time after the surface of the skin is cleansed and sanitized.

PLEASE NOTE: If you arrive to your appointment without a valid prescription, and then decide not to go through with the procedure or if you pre-apply anesthetic to your skin and are consequently turned away, you will still be charged for the appointment. If you cancel within 48 hours of your scheduled appointment time because you forgot to get the prescription and would like to to reschedule to a later date, you will be charged 50% of the service value as per our standard cancellation policy. So please do us both a favor and PLAN AHEAD!
